Welcome to my site!
I am Dr. Astrid Heathcote, a licensed clinical psychologist with more than 25 years of experience helping individuals with challenges they face going through life. I am licensed and available across over 40 states in the United States via convenient telehealth services.
As a psychologist, I have conducted and applied research, served as a consultant to communities and organizations, however my passion has been working as a provider to assess and treat a wide spectrum of mental health concerns. I have helped educators and parents understand how children think, process and learn, to design effective teaching methods that can be applied to those with unique needs (autism, ADHD). I have worked with first responders to evaluate and treat PTSD to heal from past trauma.
I feel privileged using my skills to assist in diagnosing and treating individuals with complex human problems.
Most recently I have recognized the importance to provide resources for mental health professionals. Many are under chronic stress, some eventually may develop compassion fatigue and symptoms that may interfere with work and family. Here is a quiz you can take to find out whether or not you may be affected.

So, what exactly does a person stand to gain from therapy? Ultimately, this will boil down to what a person wants to work on—no matter how challenging your specific concern or situation may be, I can help you. Sometimes a consultation with a professional psychologist might be helpful for unique life challenges that do not imply “what is wrong” but provide guidance and direction. I use evidence-based approaches like CBT, ACT, and DBT and always begin with a collaborative effort to learn what matters to you by developing a plan that is helpful and practical for everyday use.
From guided imagery and relaxation techniques to mindfulness exercises and cognitive-behavioral therapy, there are many methods that may be helpful to your specific needs.
Before your first consultation with a psychologist, write down any symptoms you may be experiencing so you can discuss them with your provider. It is also a good idea to write down a list of the things you'd like to get out of therapy, whether it be resilience building, mindfulness exercises, relaxation techniques, or other strategies to help you.
As you can see, there are many benefits that a person can enjoy when they attend therapy with an experienced psychologist; from having a safe space to express their thoughts/emotions, to better navigating major life transitions, to understanding potential struggles with learning/work environments, I can help your find a path to better understanding yourself.
